<alignment>– تُعرف المكان الأفقي العائم للجدول ويجب أن يكون اماtrightortleft(أو لاشيء)<header>– النص الذي سيظهر أعلى المخطط.size- تُعرف حجم المربع بالبكسل، الحجم القياسي 26.numbers- تحدد ما إذا كان الخط الأفقي مرقم. الخيارات: left, right, both ,neither.letters- نحدد ما إذا كان العامود معلم بالحروف. الخيارات: top, bottom, bothأو neither.<a8>, <b8>, ... <h1>– يعرف المربع المشار اليه على الرقعة.<footer>– يحدد النص الذي يظهر تحت المخطط.
تُعرف المربعات باسم القطعة التي تشغلها أو بفراغ. أسماء القطع المستعملة في القالب هي نفسها في التأشير الجبري وهي كالتالي:
هناك أيضاً قطع الشطرنج الخيالية. وتُعرف:
a = الأميرة (توليفة الفيل والحصان)
c = الإمبراطورة (توليفة القلعة والحصان)
f = ملك معكوس
g = ملكة معكوسة
m = قلعة معكوسة
j(e) = فيل معكوس
N(s) = حصان معكوس
h = جندي معكوس
z = بطل (لشطرنج أوميغا)
w = وزير (لشطرنج أوميغا)
t = أحمق (لشطرنج أوميغا)
هذه الحروف تكون ملحقة بحرف "l" للون الأبيض، أو "d" للون الأسود. بحيث "kl" تعني الحصان الأبيض وهكذا.
يحدد المربع الخالي بوضع فراغ أو فراغين أو لاشيء على الاطلاق.
<space> = مربع فارغ
يمكنك أستعمال "xx" لعلامة الأكس السوداء أو "ox" لعلامة الأكس البيضاء. و "xo" لصنع دائرة سوداء و "oo" لصنع دائرة بيضاء.
xx = أكس أسود/x
ox = أكس أبيض/x
xo = دائرة سوداء
oo = دائرة بيضاء
لوضع أسهم الاتجاهات في اللوح، تُستعمل الرموز أدناه:

It is also possible to show "fairy" pieces using the FEN notation. However, because the FEN notation uses uppercase and lowercase to denote the color of the piece, it is not possible to display the inverted knight fairy piece (denoted by "N") using the fen parameter. Only 8x8 boards can use the "fen" parameter. For other size boards, positional parameters should be used.

The "reverse=true" parameter causes the board to be shown from Black's point of view, that is, with the h8 square at lower-left corner, and a1 at the upper-right. This works for all sizes of the normal chessboard template, but not for the Alice, Bughouse, Omega, or Raumschach templates. Here, the same FEN notation as in the previous example produces a board with Black's starting position at the bottom.
